COLUMBUS, Neb. – An early morning accident on New Year’s Day caused some local residents to lose power for a few hours.
A power pole was hit by a vehicle just before 1 a.m. on Monday on E. 14th Ave. and a couple of blocks east of 38th St. near the Loup River Canal.
A Cornhusker Public Power District official did not know exactly how many residents in that area of town lost power, but said it was “a couple hundred, I’m sure.”
The CPPD rep also said that most residents who lost power regained it within 90 minutes, with the others getting power back about one hour later.
A 53-year-old Columbus man was arrested on suspicion of DUI and open container at the scene of the pole accident.
CPPD workers were changing out the pole on Tuesday afternoon.
