Plainview Man Accused of Attacking State Patrol Trooper Headed to District Court

PIERCE – A northeast Nebraska man accused of assaulting a Nebraska State Patrol trooper late last year will be arraigned next month.

Fifty-two year old Billy Ray Hoscheit waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Pierce County Court on Wednesday. He faces a felony charge of assault on an officer following an incident in December.

Patrol officials say a trooper was following up on an accident at a home in Plainview when he was confronted by Hoscheit outside the house.

The Patrol says Hoscheit pulled a machete out of a vehicle initially, then put the machete away before charging the trooper and striking him in the face.

Hoscheit has disputed the State Patrol’s account of the events…and is representing himself in court.

Prosecutors on Wednesday also dropped three misdemeanor charges related to Hoscheit’s arrest.

He’ll be arraigned in District Court in Pierce on June 4th.
