BEATRICE – Beatrice Fire and Rescue crews were sent to a three-vehicle accident Sunday, that sent one person to Beatrice Community Hospital. Rescue personnel were dispatched to Sixth and Grable, at 3:09 p.m.
Police say a southbound pickup driven by 18-year-old Katherine Cooper, of Waverly, struck the rear of another southbound pickup, driven by 67-year-old Eugene Sullivan, of Beatrice. The impact pushed Sullivan’s truck over the centerline, where it collided with a northbound motor home driven by Ivan Kudlacek, of Lavon, Texas.
That collision sent Sullivan’s truck into a retaining wall. The pickup bounced off that wall, then collided with the recreational vehicle again. Sullivan was taken to Beatrice Community Hospital for treatment of injuries. No one else was injured. Police ticketed Cooper, for the accident.
Sullivan’s 2017 pickup was totaled. There was $15,000 damage to the 2000 motor home and $2,000 damage to Cooper’s 2002 truck. Police said the retaining wall sustained about $5,000 damage.
During dangerous lightning Monday night, Beatrice Firefighters were sent to a report of a possible lightning-caused fire, at a house along West Mary.
A fire captain says firefighters responding did not find any structure fire, but believe lightning apparently struck a tree, in that area. The call came in at 8:36 p.m.
