FALLS CITY – One person was sent to the hospital after a county truck struck her vehicle in a Falls City intersection.
The incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. Friday morning when according to the Falls City Police Department, a white van driven by Roxan Woods of Falls City, was headed northbound on Stone St. and a Richardson County dump truck, driven by James Coonce of Rulo, was going west on 21st St.
According to Coonce and other witnesses, Woods stopped her van at the stop sign and then went through the intersection. 51-year-old Coonce said that he saw the van come through the intersection and he immediately slammed on his brakes. But the 13-plus ton truck could not stop fast enough and the front of it collided with the passenger side of the van.
The 59-year-old Woods, who had no memory of the incident, was taken to Community Medical Center. Coonce was uninjured.
Both people involved were wearing seat belts and the side airbags of the van did deploy.
The van slid over 20 feet after the crash and truck produced skid-marks of around 30 feet, according to FCPD.
Road supervisor Scott Huppert says the truck was hauling dirt to a county yard before the accident.
No citations were issued in the accident.
