Omaha Financial Advisor One of Two Republicans For State Treasurer

BEATRICE – One of two Republican candidates will be the chosen Nebraska State Treasurer in this year’s Primary Election, barring a write-in challenge.

Republican Taylor Royal, of Omaha says he’s best qualified, have a financial background as a certified public accountant and personal wealth manager.

Royal is facing Nebraska State Senator John Murante in this month’s primary.  There is no Democrat in the race.  The winner of the primary takes over for State Treasurer Don Stenberg, who is finishing his second term and cannot run because of term limits.

Royal says because the State Treasurer carries out an administrative role with specifically set duties, you want a qualified person in the office.  However, he says the Treasurer can also be an advocate for taxpayers at the State Capitol with the Governor and legislators.

Royal says with revenue shortfalls experienced in Nebraska and a relatively high effective tax rate, the Treasurer needs to make sure contingency plans are in place to help manage state finances to remain on solid footing.  He says one thing he would do is a review of vendor contracts.

The State Treasurer is a member of the Nebraska Investment Council, which oversees an operating investment pool…money which is invested in short-term accounts.

Royal says he’ll advocate for property tax relief and for a curriculum in high schools that teaches sound financial principles in the areas of budgeting, saving and investing.
