October Round of Strong Thunderstorms

BEATRICE – Some strong October thunderstorms brought hail and strong winds to parts of Thayer and Saline Counties yesterday, in southeast Nebraska.

Quarter-size to golfball-size hail was reported in Thayer County, near Bruning and Carleton.   Quarter to half-dollar sized hail was reported by spotters in Saline County, around the Tobias and Milligan areas.

There was one report from near Dorchester, in Saline County….of branches and power poles knocked down in a strong storm.   Saline County was under a severe thunderstorm warning and there was a tornado watch in place for the region, until about 9 p.m.

In Kansas, once-inch diameter hail was reported at Waterville, in Marshall County…..and near Linn, Kansas in Washington County.   Witness reports were received of near golfball sized hail in Clay County, Kansas.   Walnut sized hail was reported northwest of Randolph, Kansas…in Riley County.

B.J. Fictum of Saline Weather Services reports 2.3 inches of rain fell at Dorchester, while 2.1 inches of rain was reported in Friend.  An area west of Wilber received nearly 2 inches of rain.
