BEATRICE – A Monday mid-afternoon collision in a north Beatrice construction zone, slowed traffic. The accident happened at about 3:15 p.m., just north of the intersection of U.S. Highway 77 and Airpark Road.
Two and perhaps three vehicles were involved in what appeared to be a rear-end collision in the southbound lanes of the highway.
Police and Beatrice Fire and Rescue personnel were sent to the scene. There’s no immediate word on how many people were injured and the extent of injuries in the accident. One pickup in the southbound lanes had significant damage to it’s front and had to be towed from the scene, while a second pickup and van in front of it, had rear end damage.
Police directed northbound traffic on one lane past the accident scene, while southbound traffic was diverted around the accident a half-block west, to Airpark Road.
Repairs have been going on this spring on U.S. Highway 77 in north Beatrice, in advance of a resurfacing project later this summer. Traffic cones have been put in place and travel is limited to one lane in some areas.
