North 2nd Engineering Agreement Approved by Beatrice City Council

BEATRICE – An engineering agreement has been approved by Beatrice officials, for the brick street replacement project next to the Gage County Museum. The city council approved the agreement with Speece-Lewis Engineers.

City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer says it’s a two-part project going on at the same time……a city resurfacing on North 2nd from Ella to Grant…and a State of Nebraska project to re-lay the bricks on North 2nd, from Court to Ella.

The city project will start after the Fourth of July holiday, while the brick section is expected to begin in late July.   Storm sewer construction and some patching are included in the work.   The contractor requested and was granted a later start date from the Nebraska Department of Roads for the portion in front of the museum.

In other action Monday night, the Beatrice City Council approved the transfer of private property located at 813 South 7th Street, to the city.  A lot on the northwest corner of 7th and Brown is being deeded to the city.

The council voted 6-1 to approve the transfer.  Councilman Rick Clabaugh felt the city should first determine the property’s use.

Council President David “Pede” Catlin says it’s not unlike past acquisitions where the city has acquired a lot of properties that “we don’t have a game plan for”.

Monday night, elected officials approved a special liquor permit for a downtown wine tasting business, to have a beer garden partly on city property, August 17th to the 21st during solar eclipse events in the area.  Councilman Dwight Parde was the only objector in the 6-1 vote.

The permit was sought by Tall Tree Tastings, at 5th and Ella Streets.

The Beatrice City Council last night approved a $72,000 bid for water main construction on 8th and Oak Streets, and approved a final payment of some $22,000 for a water main project completed on 2nd Street.  The contractor on both, is TH Construction.
