Norris boys take first, Beatrice and Crete girls have strong showing at Cardinals’ Invite Thursday

CRETE – The Crete Track and Field Invite took place at Doane University on Thursday afternoon.

The Norris boys took the team championship with 147.5 points. Crete finished fourth with 65. Beatrice was seventh out of seven teams with 18 total points.

On the girls’ side, Beatrice finished third as a team with 97 points. Norris was fourth with 76.5, while Crete placed 5th as a team with 74.

Starting with some area winners on the boys’ side, Norris’ Ashton Hausmann placed first in the 100-meter dash (10.96 seconds). Hausmann also won the 200-meter dash (22.90 seconds).

In the 400-meter dash, Norris’ Ethan Schmidt took first place (50.92 seconds). In high jump, Crete’s Carter Reckling took first, clearing 6 feet-3 inches. In pole vault, the gold medal went to Norris’ Glenn Catt. He cleared an even 13 feet.

In long jump, Norris scored another victory here. Matthew Medill leaped 20 feet-11.5 inches to take first. In triple jump, yet another win for the Titans. Skyler Schwaniger jumped 43 feet-9.25 inches to win the event.

In shot put, Crete’s Jaedon Lothrop won with a throw of 50 feet-4.5 inches.

As for area winners in the Crete Invite from the girls’ ranks, Beatrice’s 4×800 meter relay team took first (10:19.97). In the 100-meter dash, Norris’ Kenzie Roy crossed the line in first (12.46).

In the 400-meter dash, Crete’s Hannah Newton took first (1:03.79). Newton also won high jump, clearing 5 feet-1 inch.

In the 800 meter run, Beatrice’s Veronica Pinkerton won the event (2:27.73).

In the 3200 meter run, Norris’ Libby Gourlay won the two-mile race (12:50.19). Meanwhile, Crete’s 4×400 relay team picked up a win (4:16.21).

In pole vault, Norris’ Lauren Havlat took first place with a vault of 9 feet-6.25 inches. In triple jump, Beatrice’s Addison Barnard picked up the win with a leap of 35 feet-7.75 inches.

In shot put, Crete’s star thrower Morgan Maly won the event with a throw of 39 feet-8 inches.

Crete will take part in their conference meet next Saturday at Columbus Lakeview. Norris has their conference meet Tuesday, Apr. 30 at Indian Creek Golf Course in Elkhorn. Beatrice has the RCC meet on Thurs., May 2 at Omaha Skutt.
