New Loader Purchased for Beatrice Landfill

BEATRICE – The Beatrice Area Solid Waste Agency Board has approved a major equipment purchase.  The board consisting of the mayor, city council and two county board representatives, approved purchase of a 755K John Deere Crawler Loader, on a unanimous vote.

The purchase, for some $238,000, will be financed over five years through Security First Bank.   Officials took bids on both the machine and the financing.

Beatrice City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer says the crawler works alongside a compactor the landfill acquired the past year.

The financing rate for the purchase is 3.45%.  The crawler loader is expected to be delivered to the landfill in January.

The current landfill has about six years of disposal space left.  Solid waste agency board members will have to decide if a new landfill area is developed, or a transfer station is developed, instead.
