FAIRBURY – City Council has selected Larkin Aquatics out of Kansas City to design the new Fairbury pool, but no contract has been drawn up or signed yet. City Administrator Collin Bielser says that contract is the city’s next step, along with getting the public’s input on design ideas.
Voters approved $5 million bond back in February, with the pool being the focus. Bielser says the bond issuance can also be used for improvements on the city’s parks, but it’s ultimately up to city council to make that decision.
According to Bielser, the Aquatic Center will most likely open in the summer of 2019. Whether the current pool will be open during the summers in between, is not known at this time.
Bielser says, “That’s yet to be determined. There’s some options that they will look at. Larkin has thrown in an option that construction could be started in the fall of 2018, the pool would maybe close a bit earlier, but then you could start the construction then. But that’s still kind of up in the air.”
