HEBRON, NE – The Southeast Community College Learning Centers in Hebron and York are rolling out a brand new, entry-level manufacturing technician course.
The course, Manufacturing Technician Level 1, was developed to meet the employment demands of the manufacturing industry in southeast Nebraska. SCC Director of Client Solutions and Workforce Development Marguerite Himmelberg says the course will help fill a major employment need in the Hebron and York area.
“This has been in the works for several months,” Himmelberg said. “We’re very pleased to be able to offer some training that will help people position themselves for great manufacturing careers in southeast Nebraska.”
According to Himmelberg, the Nebraska Department of Labor estimates that about 800 manufacturing jobs will need to be filled in southeast Nebraska within the next couple of years.
SCC, in collaboration with eight area manufacturing employers, had been looking at adding a manufacturing course for almost the last year.
York County Development Corporation, Seward County Chamber & Economic & Development Corporation, Fillmore County Development Corporation and Thayer County Development Corporation also helped with the development of the course.
The deadline to apply for the course is Feb. 15, and the course will be taught Feb. 26 through March 26. Anyone interested in signing up is encouraged to contact the SCC Learning Centers in York and Hebron.
Himmelberg says the hope is to expand manufacturing courses to the other SCC campuses in Lincoln, Beatrice and Milford, depending on the interest in the York and Hebron areas.
