BEATRICE – A Nebraska delegation has returned from a trade trip to South Korea. The six-member group met January 9th and 10th, with companies and industry associations in Seoul, South Korea.

Governor Pete Ricketts says South Korea has been a strong international partner with Nebraska, and is the state’s fifth-largest export market. The country imports an estimated $517 million in goods, from Nebraska.

Tuesday night, the delegation met with about 40 representatives of the South Korean business community, at a reception hosted by the U.S. Embassy.  Ricketts spoke in a recorded address, welcoming Korean officials and urging them to visit Nebraska to explore opportunities for business and investment.

One of the delegation members was Walker Zulkoski, Executive Director of Gage Area Growth Enterprise (NGage), in Beatrice.  Zulkoski says South Korean companies have demonstrated a willingness to invest in Nebraska.

Gage County has seen foreign direct investment with the location of China-based Worldlawn Manufacturing’s U.S. Headquarters…and the partnership between the Itochu Corporation and the Duonix Bioediesel Plant.

Nebraska Department of Economic Development Director, Dave Rippe says it’s important to promote Nebraska’s strengths, overseas.  He noted foreign-owned companies create over 59,000 jobs in Nebraska.

Nebraska now has Korean company offices located at the Nebraska Innovation Campus.  South Korean officials are partnering with the University of Nebraska Food Processing Center to help develop Korean food products sold in the U.S.
