Names of Drivers Released, in Friday Accident North of Beatrice

BEATRICE – Gage County Sheriff’s officers have released the names of the drivers involved in a highway accident that slowed northbound traffic Friday morning, north of Beatrice.

The collision between a northbound car and a semitrailer truck turning onto U.S. Highway 77, happened next to the Diamond-T Truck Stop about a mile north of Beatrice.

The truck, driven by 55-year-old Marlin Slobodan, of Kitchener, Ontario Canada was leaving the truck stop turning south.   The trucker allegedly failed to yield for a northbound Ford Focus, driven by 28-year-old Joshua Shepardson, of Wymore.

Investigators say Shepardson was taken to the nearby Beatrice Community Hospital, for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  Slobodan was not hurt.

The collision Friday, at 6:45 a.m., prompted law officers to divert traffic to a frontage road around the east side of the accident scene.
