NEBRASKA CITY – A man whose body was found dumped near an Alabama campground on Monday was wanted for arrest in Otoe County on charges related to an alleged assault on the woman who is charged for his murder.
Miles Dean Sprague, 48, made headlines in Nebraska City in July of 2015 after he told a sheriff’s deputy arriving at an accident scene on the Missouri River bridge that his girlfriend, 43-year-old Jolie Hoefling, had shocked him with a taser while he drove.
About a month later, charges were brought against Sprague alleging strangulation, false imprisonment and domestic assault against Hoefling.|
Sprague entered a plea in the case to resisting arrest, but failed to appear for sentencing on Dec. 13, 2016.
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama reported the discovery of Sprague’s body in a wooded area about a quarter of a mile from where he had been staying with Hoefling in a camper.
Investigators say Sprague was stabbed in the neck and torso.
Hoefling is subject of over 20 cases in Otoe County courts, including a charge of intentional child abuse in 2005.
The Southeast Drug Enforcement Task Force searched her Third Corso home in December of 2006 after an inmate in the Nemaha County jail implicated her in an methamphetamine investigation.
