BEATRICE – A report of a reckless driver Saturday afternoon in northern Gage County, ended with the arrest of the driver in north Beatrice.
22-year-old Simon Hauck was arrested for alleged reckless driving and driving under the influence of drugs.
Gage County law officers received a report of a reckless driver entering northern Gage County along U.S. Highway 77. A black-colored vehicle was later observed driving in the median of the four-lane highway, with a rear tire missing. Authorities said at one point, the vehicle nearly rolled, and had struck several road signs.
A Beatrice Police officer conducted a traffic stop on the car near U.S. 77 and Sargent Road. The driver, Hauck, allegedly exhibited signs of drug impairment. A Nebraska State Patrol trooper who is a drug recognition expert came to the scene and confirmed that the driver appeared to be under the influence of a depressant.
Hauck was arrested. His appearance bond is set at $3,500, with an October 9th hearing scheduled in Gage County Court. He was on probation, at the time of his arrest.
