Motorcycle And Deer Collision Sends Fairbury Man To Lincoln Hospital Via Helicopter

FAIRBURY – Traffic was slowed Wednesday night due to an accident west of the viaduct on River Road near Fairbury on Hwy 136.

At 8:52pm Jefferson County Communications received a 911 call of a collision involving a motorcycle and a deer.

Zachary Wharton, age 22 of Fairbury was eastbound on Highway 136 riding a 2000 Yamaha bike when a deer came out of the south ditch crossing in front of the driver. The collision with the animal caused Wharton to be knocked off the motorcycle. The bike then slid 421 feet into the ditch.

Wharton was transported to Jefferson Community Health and Life, then later flown by helicopter to a Lincoln hospital for his injuries. His condition in unknown at this time.

The Jefferson County Ambulance, Fairbury Fire Department, Jefferson County Rescue, Fairbury Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the accident.
