Man’s Death South of Holmesville, Ruled Suicide

BEATRICE – Gage County law officers investigated the weekend discovery of a body near the Big Blue River, about 1.5 miles south of Holmesville.

Two sheriff’s investigators say citizens notified the sheriff’s office of the finding, Saturday afternoon at about three.  The body, which Sheriff Millard Gustafson says has been identified as 24-year-old Vicente Rodriguez, was discovered in some small trees along the east riverbank of the Big Blue….in an area off a minimum maintenance road that is popular as a fishing spot.

Sheriff’s officers say a vehicle belonging to Rodriguez was located on a county road, about a quarter-mile north of the location where his body was found.

Beatrice Police had received a report earlier in the day that Rodriguez was missing.  He had been missing since about 3:30 p.m., Thursday, but was not reported as a missing person to Beatrice Police until Saturday morning, at 9:08.

The Gage County Attorney’s office has determined that the manner of death was a suicide.   Investigators did not uncover any suspicious circumstances or evidence of involvement by other persons.

Local authorities contacted police in Seneca, Kansas, where the victim’s mother resides. Deputy Gage County Attorney Callyn Schuck says Rodriguez had been working and staying in Beatrice.
