Man Swims Across Lake to Flee Columbus Police

COLUMBUS – A man was arrested following a pursuit that started in Columbus and ended at a sand pit lake west of the city.

Columbus Police say in a press release that at approximately 10:28 p.m. Monday evening, officers from the CPD initiated a traffic stop on the1500 block of  Howard Boulevard. After initiating the traffic stop the 25-year-old suspect began to flee the scene. Officers pursued the suspect who went down the Boulevard westbound before heading down Shady Lake Road.

The press release says the suspect then entered a ditch but continued to drive, and eventually drove across three fields, near Shady Lake Road and 63rd Avenue.

The suspect eventually stopped near a sand pit lake, where he fled from the vehicle and swam across the lake.

The press release states, “Platte County Deputies and State troopers assisted the Columbus police In the man hunt for the wet suspect. The suspect was found about 31 minutes later. He was identified as Caleb Urban. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital, treated and released, then Jailed for Willful Reckless Driving, Fleeing with Motor Vehicle to Avoid Arrest, Driving Under Revocation and Driving Under the influence.”
