Man Arrested at Manufacturing Job, For Sex Offender Violation

BEATRICE – A convicted sex offender in Beatrice has been arrested for allegedly violating the state’s sex offender registry act.

25-year-old Michael Melroy allegedly failed to report a change of employment as required under state law.   Gage County law officers found that he had been employed for 94 days at a local manufacturer, but failed to register his employment in the required time period.  The charge filed against him carries a potential sentence of up to three years in prison and up to 18 months post-release supervision.

Melroy, who was arrested at his place of employment, faces a Gage County Court hearing, February 24th and his appearance bond is set at $5,000.

Court documents show he was convicted in Jefferson County District Court in February of 2014, for attempted 1st-degree assault of a 13-year-old female.
