Man Arrested After Refusing to Leave Church Parking Lot, Fighting Police

NORFOLK – Police say a Norfolk man was arrested after fighting with them in a church parking lot.

Norfolk Police Capt. Don Miller says 69-year old Roy Whipking was arrested on Sunday. Miller says police were sent to the Victory Road Assembly of God Church at about 10 a.m. Sunday. Church officials say they saw Whipking placing flyers on the vehicles in the parking lot and asked him to leave.

Police say Whipking became agressive with the church official and refused to leave, citing his constitutional right to challenge the teachings of the church.

Miller says police tried to reason with Whipking, but that he tried to fight the officers as they arrested him. He faces trespass, assault and resisting arrest charges. He’s currently out on bond.
