Omaha, NE—A state lawmaker’s unusual “get out of jail card” is about to expire and his drunk driving arrest likely to kick-in soon.
After he was pulled over in February, McDonnell told his fellow lawmakers he was pulled over for not maintaining his lane on I-80 between Omaha and Lincoln.
But according to exclusive information we first told you about (see video above) that’s not the half of it.
McDonnell is a Democrat representing much of south Omaha.
As for that loophole here’s how it works:
Except for treason, felonies or breach of the peace Nebraska lawmakers can’t be arrested during the Legislative session or for 15 days before or after.
Sources tell News Channel Nebraska that McDonnell will likely turn himself in and because he was stopped in Sarpy County he’ll have the opportunity to avoid prosecution by going through the county’s DUI diversion program.
Sarpy is the only county in Nebraska that gives drunk drivers that legal second chance.
