Labor Day Holiday Washout Brings River Levels Up

BEATRICE – Persistent heavy rain over the Labor Day Holiday weekend is bringing some rivers and streams up to near flood stage.

The Big Blue River at Beatrice rose more than nine feet in a 48-hour period and was less than six feet below flood stage early Tuesday.   The Big Blue at Marysville, Kansas rose more than thirteen feet between early Sunday evening and early Monday morning, but remained well below flood stage.

The Little Blue River at Fairbury has risen more than eight feet and was expected to get within one-and-a-half feet of flood stage, by early Wednesday morning.

The Little Nemaha River at Auburn rose to less than five feet under flood stage early Monday morning, but then fell some eight feet through early Tuesday morning.

Most rivers were running at low levels prior to the holiday weekend heavy rainfall.
