FAIRBURY – Jefferson Community Health & Life in Fairbury offered a Cooking Class for Kids and their adult partners last week. 9 sets of kids and adults learned about healthy eating, reading a recipe, proper knife skills, and preparing healthy meals. In this session the groups worked together to prepare a hearty vegetable filled homemade spaghetti sauce and made from scratch apple crisp, which then later got to enjoy. JCH&L’s Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Lisa Edeal says that these classes are a way to get kids and parents in the kitchen preparing healthy options.
“A lot of kids these days don’t know the importance of cooking, and don’t get in the kitchen to cook with their parents. I think we do a lot of fast food meals and those type of things. So I really wanted to get kids and parents back in the kitchen so they can cook together and learn what I consider a very essential skill.”
There are plans to have more cooking classes at JCH&L December 27th, March 8th, as well as the summer of 2019.
