NEBRASKA CITY – Keep Nebraska City Beautiful is planning a litter clean-up campaign through the AppleJack Festival.
Administrator Brittany Szydelko updated Rotarians Wednesday on the organization’s origins and its purpose.
Szydelko: “Basically the importance of recycling and litter reduction in the town. As everyone here likes to keep the town beautiful, that’s something we make our mission.”
The Nebraska City organization officially affiliated with Keep America Beautiful this April and was part of this spring’s Great American Clean Up.
There were 172 volunteers who put in 266 volunteer hours. They picked up litter on 10 miles of sidewalk and acres of park land, collecting over 2,000 pounds of litter to be hauled away.
Szydelko: “I feel the momentum is going pretty well. We do need more volunteers, but for that American Clean Up it was a huge, success for our start.”
Keep Nebraska City Beautiful is organizing litter patrols for the AppleJack Festival, including the end of the car show on Sunday.
Szydelko: “Get involved because Nebraska City loves to be beautiful and we want to keep it that way and teach our children to take care of our home.”
