Kansas Highway Patrol Investigates Jackson County Fatal Accident

BEATRICE – A 16-year-old Wetmore, Kansas youth has died of injuries in a highway collision in Jackson County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports the accident happened south of Netawaka, Kansas, on U.S. Highway 75.

A Toyota Corolla driven by 16-year-old Garrett Klahr was westbound on 286th Road and allegedly failed to stop at a sign, at the junction with U.S. 75.  The car was struck on the passenger side by a Semitrailer truck traveling south, driven by 54-year-old David Christianson, of Canby, Minnesota.

The state patrol says Klahr was taken to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, where he died.  Christianson was not injured in the accident.   The accident happened at around 3:35 p.m., last Thursday.

Kansas Highway Patrol officers also investigated an injury crash in Nemaha County, which happened at around 5:50 p.m, Saturday, along U.S. Highway 36.

An eastbound Dodge pickup driven by 30-year-old Dustin Graf, of Girard, struck the rear of a Ford Focus which was stopped, waiting to turn left off the highway.  The car was driven by 18-year-old Brittany Paxton, of Beattie, Kansas.  Paxton and a passenger, 18-year-old Theran Carillo of Beattie, were taken to Nemaha Valley Hospital for treatment of injuries.  Graf was not hurt.
