Jeffs sweep Thayer Central in Fairbury on Saturday evening

FAIRBURY, NE – The Jeffs had mixed results at Milford on Friday night, with the Fairbury girls winning 52-46 and the boys losing 77-41.

On Saturday, it was unanimously a Fairbury night.

The Lady Jeffs (2-3) scored their second straight win with a 46-26 victory over Thayer Central (2-1) at Fairbury High School. The boys (3-2) followed with a 66-37 win over the Titans (1-2).

This is the fifth straight year that the Fairbury teams have swept Thayer Central during the regular season in basketball.

Girls

Twelve turnovers by the Lady Titans in the first quarter propelled Fairbury to a 13-4 lead after the first eight minutes of play.

The Lady Jeffs led 21-10 at half, and were up double digits the rest of the way.

Three players scored in double figures for Fairbury, led by senior Jessa Eden who scored a game-high 14 points. Junior Sara Huss was close behind with 12, and junior Jaelle Johnson totaled 10.

Head coach Lyle Thompson changed the offense in the last two games, putting Johnson at point guard and sophomore Ellie Ohlde at shooting guard. The Jeffs are 2-0 since Thompson made the change.

That adjustment has also led to fewer turnovers for Fairbury. The Jeffs committed anywhere between 23-25 turnovers in the first three games. Against Milford, they had only nine and 20 against Thayer Central.

The Lady Titans, who committed 23 total turnovers, were led in scoring by junior Stephanie Meyer, who finished with eight points including two made three-pointers.
