Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office warns of suspicious phone activity

FAIRBURY, NE – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s office is warning citizens of some suspicious phone activity on Friday.

At about 11 a.m. on Feb. 1, Jefferson County Sheriff Nels Sorenson said the office started receiving calls from the public, who say they were getting calls from a person who said he was with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspicious caller wanted to update personal information and pressed the individual that they’d send a unit to pick them up if they did not cooperate.

The caller is also using names of current employees at the sheriff’s office.  The information that the caller, or callers, are asking for will never be updated via phone.

The phone number that’s been coming up is 402-414-4055.  It’s possibly a cellphone from the Auburn, NE area.

Anyone that receives any of these calls are urged not give out any personal identification information, hang up and report it to law enforcement.

Sorenson says the sheriff’s office is working to get this activity stopped. We’ll update this story as more information becomes available.
