FAIRBURY – October is Fire Safety Month, and the Jefferson County Rural Fire Department is doing its part in teaching children of the community all about fire safety.
Earlier this fall, the Fire Department put on a coloring contest for the students of Central Elementary in Fairbury. Each winner from K-5 has gotten a ride to school in a firetruck each morning from Oct. 8 – 12.
Each winning drawing will be featured on the placemats at Runza in Fairbury as well.
The Department also had a demonstration for young children at the First United Presbyterian Church in Fairbury on Tuesday morning, and they’ll talk all things kitchen safety to an older audience at the Fairbury Gardens on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.
