Jefferson County Rural Fire Department to hold open house

FAIRBURY – The Fairbury Rural Fire Department will host an open house this Saturday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The event,  called “Family Fun Day at Fairbury Rural Fire Department,” will include kid’s games, safety demonstrations, fire truck rides along with refreshments.

There’ll also be a television on hand, so people can watch Nebraska’s game at Michigan if they wish. The game will start at 11 a.m.

Admission to the event is free. Chris Parker, who’s on the fire safety committee, says the event will provide plenty of fun along with plenty of helpful tips dealing with fire safety.

“You’re always doing fire safety,” Parker said. “The more fire safety that we do, the more people become aware of the hazards and stuff, and the less fire calls we have.”

The Fairbury Rural Fire Department will hold their annual fire safety week from Oct. 7 – 13. That will include a coloring contest with elementary students, where the winner will get a ride to school in a fire truck.
