Jefferson County Residents Told To Take Caution After Suspicious Activity

FAIRBURY –  The Jefferson County Sherriff’s department is warning Jefferson County residents to take caution to stopped vehicles along the road after an incident Friday night.

According to a post on the department’s facebook page

“On August 24, 2018 at around 9:00 PM a Jefferson County resident stopped to assist two stranded vehicles just north of 715th Road on Airport Road. When the resident approached the vehicle the driver said he had a dead battery and no jumper cables. The resident was then approached by two additional men that walked out of the ditch. Three more males walked out of the ditch and a passing motorist observed the males approach the resident from behind and stopped to assist.”

The last motorist that came to assist had a firearm present.  When the suspicious males observed the handgun they fled the area.

According to the post there were approximately 7 Hispanic males present during this incident. One vehicle was a red station wagon style vehicle. The second vehicle is an unknown make and model, but is white in color.

The Jefferson County Sherriff’s department is warning all area residents to please be watching for any suspicious activity and report it to the department right away.   They also said if you observe any stranded motorists to call the Sheriff’s office and they will dispatch an officer to assist them.
