Jefferson County Fair to Begin, Six Families Being Honored in Pioneer Awards

FAIRBURY – There is a lot to look forward to this fair season, including honoring those farmers who have invested their lives in establishing farms throughout the county.

Fair Board President Lois Welsh says, “In our Pioneer Family, we probably have the most we’ve had in a long time. We have six families this year that are being honored.”

The families represent 100 years of hard work and service in farming.

The Pioneer Family Awards will be held at the 4-H Building at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Welsh says, “I think that’s very important to present our roots, and especially to do it with the county fair because, that is so deep in our roots of maybe to 100 – close to 150 years.”

Other highlighted events include the Miss Jefferson County Pageant, 4-H and FFA Livestock Judging, Carnival Rides, Beer Garden, Rodeo and Rodeo Dance.

The Pioneer Farm Family Award Winners include: Lloyd Rippe of Diller; Neal and Kay Onnen of Fairbury; Mitch and Alisa Pesek of Swanton; Emory Dale and Marilyn Shinn of Fairbury; Roger and Judith Schoenrock of Fairbury; and David Schnuelle of Jansen.
