FAIRBURY – Jefferson County Commissioners Gale Pohlmann and Mark Schoenrock attended the annual County Board of Equalization Workshop and County Board Workshop this past week.
The workshops were put on by the Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO) in Kearney, from Wednesday – Friday.
The workshop included topics ranging from equalization process, changing county demographics, county government legal issues, healthcare issues facing rural Nebraska, communication, reports on recent disasters, rural suicide prevention, active threat assessment and other sessions pertaining to county board commissioners.
“All of those subjects, at some point, will come to bear on Jefferson County government,” Schoenrock said. “If we go into facing those challenges with an educated perspective, it helps us do a better job to address those issues.”
The benefit of attending this conference, according to NACO Executive Director Larry Dix , is to network with fellow county board members from across the state, and to discuss common issues.
“The educational value of attending the workshop will be paid back in the knowledge that is gained from not only the scheduled topics, but the knowledge gained by spending time with peers,”Dix said.
