Iowa Man Fails to Show For Gage County, Nebraska Sentencing

BEATRICE –  A Carroll, Iowa man who previously failed to show up for his trial in Gage County District Court, is a no-show again.

Robert Waite was to be sentenced Thursday in Beatrice, for third-degree assault and attempted failure to appear.

Waite was previously scheduled to go on trial late last September, on charges of strangulation, 1st-degree false imprisonment and 3rd-degree domestic assault.   His attorney, Gage County Public Defender Lee Timan (TYE-mun) Thursday told the presiding judge that he had received a communication from his client, that he would be late for his Thursday sentencing hearing.

District Judge Julie Smith denied a defense request to reschedule.

Waite had appeared previously, on December 21st, on a plea agreement. Waite entered no contest pleas.

The judge revoked Waite’s bond, but did not order it to be forfeited. Smith issued a bench warrant with the order that Waite be held in custody for court, should he arrive.
