FAIRBURY – Jefferson County Commissioners officially approved the interlocal agreement between Jefferson County and the city of Fairbury for law enforcement services on Tuesday.
Last week, the Fairbury City Council approved the agreement in a 6-2 vote.
The new law enforcement contract will absorb the Fairbury Police Department into the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office. With six, 24/7 officers dedicated to Fairbury, the city will have the same level of law enforcement coverage it’s always had.
This proposal will also save the city of Fairbury 144-thousand dollars a year. The agreement takes effect on January 1st.
