Interest is High, in Downtown Beatrice Building Front Improvement Program

BEATRICE – A planned downtown Beatrice building façade grant program is apparently popular, with applications for the money far exceeding the amount of funding available.

So far, 26 applications totaling about $750,000 have been received by the city.  The grant for the phase-two part of a downtown revitalization program totals about $340,000.  Beatrice City Councilman Phil Cook says the demand exceeds his expectations.

A local committee is reviewing the applications.  Building owners would be required to provide matching funds on their project.  In the end, the Beatrice City Council has final say on which projects are approved.  A next step is to sift through the applications to determine which plans are given approval for grant funding.
