BEATRICE – The Homestead National Monument of America west of Beatrice has a full line-up of Homestead Days activities.
The line-up begins Friday with traditional craft demonstrations from ten until five….plus afternoon presentations on one-room country schools by Nina Roelfs and Paul Siebert, at one and two p.m.
Park Ranger Susan Cook says the monument will feature a portrayal of the American President who signed the Homestead Act of 1862…Abraham Lincoln.

Dr. Griessman will give his presentation at one p.m., both Saturday and Sunday….at the outdoor seating area outside the Education Center. At noon Saturday and Sunday, the Homestead Harmonizers will perform. The Lincoln Irish Dancers perform both days on the weekend, at two p.m. Deb Carpenter and Lyn Messersmith put on a four p.m. presentation Saturday and Sunday, called Legends and Leaders of the West.

This week, the National Country Schools Association held their conference at Southeast Community College, and stories from those who taught at one-room country schools were featured during sessions at the Homestead. All of the activities at the monument during Homestead Days, are free.
