Hit-and-Run Suspects Found With Butcher Knife In Union

PLATTSMOUTH – Cass County Sheriff William Brueggemann reports a suspect in a Feb. 8 hit-and-run was stopped in Union Tuesday and two men were arrested on weapon and other charges.

Cass County Crime Stoppers had earlier reported a hit-and-run involving a vehicle that struck the rear of a truck and semi-trailer driven by 56-year-old John Giittinger of Nebraska City.

On Tuesday, a deputy noticed an Oldsmobile Bravada with front-end damage and made a traffic stop in Union. He discovered that the driver, 18-year-old Benjamin Robinson, was considered a missing person out of Omaha.

The passenger, 30-year-old  Adam Ellison of Nebraska City, had his two-year-old daughter in the vehicle.

A second deputy helped confirm that the men were giving false reports about how the front end of the Bravada was damaged.

Deputies also located marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle along with a large butcher knife next to the passenger seat.

Deputies took the driver Robinson into custody for being a missing person. He was cited for false reporting and possession of marijuana.

Ellison, the passenger and owner of the vehicle,  was taken into custody and booked for possession of a deadly weapon by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon and false reporting.

Robinson was cited and released to State worker who transported him back to Omaha.

Hit and run investigation is still ongoing.
