Hebron City Council discusses bridge project at Tuesday meeting

HEBRON, NE – The Hebron City Council held a special meeting on Tuesday night at Hebron Seacrest Library to discuss bridge repairs in the city.

In March, JEO Consulting surveyed bridges on 1st and 4th Street in Hebron, and noticed cracks and scaling in the concrete along with other wear and tear.

The total cost to repair both bridges is nearly $3.4 million. The 1st street bridge, which was built in 1981, would only cost about $388,000 to repair, but the 4th street bridge repairs would cost $2.98 million.

Ameritas Investment Corp. would grant the city council a loan to cover the expenses, should the council decide to move forward with the project.

This would cost the city of Hebron over $173,202 annually over the next 40 years.

If authorized, the project would be completed in August 2021. Permitting and designing would begin in January 2019. JEO Consulting says only one bridge at a time would be closed during construction.

The council will meet again on Monday.
