Harvest Bonanza Wraps Up After Another Successful Year

JANSEN – The 15th Annual Harvest Bonanza, where News Channel Nebraska gives food to all the hard working farmers during the harvest, came to a close on Tuesday, with possibly the biggest turnout of the year at Farmers Cooperative in Jansen.

“We served 400 hot dogs today in Jansen, which they had over 200 trucks come in. A lot of our guys that come and pick up the meals are taking them back to the other combine workers, the other grain haulers, so we’ll have 4,6,8 bags go out at a time, which is like 16 or 20 hot dogs,” said Nichole Scholl, who’s with Promotions at Ol Red 99.5 in Fairbury.

The original Harvest Bonanza, featuring Ol Red 99.5 in Fairbury and KWBE in Beatrice, had six locations. This year, News Channel Nebraska arranged 19 stops.

“Without our local FFA Chapters and our sponsors helping us out at these locations and bringing the event to life, we wouldn’t be able to do this on our own. There’s no way I could cook and serve over 400 hotdogs in Jansen by myself, so many, many thanks to them. Without them, yeah, we’d be dead in the water,” declared Scholl.

At the Jansen location, a few members of the Fairbury FFA volunteered their time to help the cause.  Kane Hasselbring even helps his grandpa with his harvest.

“It’s a lot. Most of the time, they usually have one to two combines running, like two trucks, so it’s a lot of work. Especially when you’re hauling to here. If you’re over in Deshler and you’re hauling to here, that’s just a lot of long distance, and you got combines waiting for you. You’re just trying to hurry, but you’ve got long lines. It’s pretty fun, though,” stated Hasselbring.

May all the farmers have a great rest of their harvest!
