Grant to Aid Village of Western, in Wastewater Study

BEATRICE – the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Agency says the Saline County village of Western will receive a grant to assist in development of future wastewater improvements.

The $24,000 grant comes from the Special Evaluation Assistance for Rural Communities and Households program, known as SEARCH.

The funding will be used for a preliminary engineering report that looks at Western’s current situation and a variety of alternatives for future wastewater infrastructure needs.  USDA Rural Development Specialist Luann Brown says the project also looks at the economic and environmental impact wastewater upgrades will have on the community.

The SEARCH program is intended for smaller, financially-distressed rural communities with feasibility, design and technical assistance on water and wastewater projects.
