Grant Enables Free Batteries, for Beatrice Home Smoke Detectors

BEATRICE – Beatrice residents needing to replace a battery in their home smoke detectors can get batteries, at no charge, from the Beatrice Fire and Rescue Department.

Through a grant secured for the department by Keep Beatrice Beautiful, Fire Captain Jeremy Seggerman says the department has about 36,000 nine-volt batteries available for use in home smoke detectors.

Seggerman says persons needing a battery can stop by the Beatrice Fire and Rescue Department, lower level of the Municipal Auditorium.  For elderly or disabled persons who are unable to change their detector batteries, you can call to make an appointment, and a department member will come to your home and install the battery or batteries.

Seggerman says with the number of batteries and number of smoke detectors in the city, people will be able to get more than just a single battery.
