Gage County Law Officers Arrest Suspect, Recover Over $6,000 of Property

BEATRICE – Gage County Sheriff’s Officers have collected three trailer-loads of suspected stolen goods, and arrested a Beatrice man.

Appearance bond has been set in Gage County Court at $50,000 for 45-year-old Shawn Huntington…arrested Sunday after authorities were summoned to a farm field, about two miles northeast of Barneston.

A deputy and sheriff’s investigator went to the scene to investigate, when a burglary victim had located stolen property and the suspect.  One person told authorities Huntington had been observed removing property from a residence along South 120th Road, had placed the items in a vehicle, and drove away.

The victim went after the suspect, confronting him.  Huntington was arrested after a search of  the suspect’s vehicle turned up marijuana, drug paraphernalia, numerous flashlights, wire cutting pliers and a tool officers say was used to break windshields.   Authorities say some of the items had been stolen from a Barneston residence.

Authorities also searched the home of a relative of the suspect, recovering items sheriff’s officers say had been taken in five separate burglaries under investigation.  The value of the items was placed at $6,300.

Gage County law officers say three trailer loads of recovered property were hauled to an impound site, in Wymore.

Huntington has been jailed for alleged possession of burglar tools, theft, theft by receiving stolen property, criminal mischief, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.   He faces an August 29th hearing in Gage County Court.

It was not immediately clear if Huntington is a suspect in all five burglaries.
