Five Football Players Injured in Sunday Crash, Two Still Hospitalized

SURPRISE – Two of five Concordia University football players remain hospitalized after an accident Sunday night in Butler County.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office says a vehicle was heading southbound on County Road G when a vehicle carrying all five players lost control, drove into a ditch, hit a culvert, and rolled at approximately 11:55 p.m. on Sunday. The sheriff’s office confirms that the five injured in the accident include Grant Ritter, Robert Ferguson, and Ryan Durdon of Texas, as well as Preston Schnitzler of Kenesaw and Dylan McKee of Colorado.

BCSO says all of the men involved were transported from the scene by ambulance, and confirms that two medical transports by helicopter occurred later but the details on who was transported have not yet been released. Two of the men remain hospitalized as of Tuesday.

BCSO is still investigating the accident, and says speed is most likely a factor in the accident. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The sheriff’s office says of the two that are in the hospital, one is in stable condition and the other’s condition is unknown. Further details have yet to be released.

The accident occurred just northeast of Surprise.

The five are currently freshman on the Concordia University football team in Seward.
