Fake clown Facebook post causes concern to Fairbury residents

The Fairbury Police Department received some calls about a concerning post on Facebook Wednesday evening.   The post featured a picture of a clown on a swing, and stated that the clown was armed and dangerous, and located at one of the parks in Fairbury.

The Fairbury Police responded with a Facebook post of their own that read:   “We want everyone to know that this is NOT true and we have received no reports about this incident. There is no threat at this time to the public.”

Clown sightings have become a trend around the country, and a trend that is frightening citizens.  Lincoln police have reported several sightings so far.

Fairbury Police Chief Chad Sprunk is asking residents to be aware and report anything out of the ordinary.

Sprunk told NCN on Monday, “With the the issues going around, everyone needs to be extra cautious and be aware of your surroundings.  Even though it has not happened in our area, that does not mean it can’t.  If you see anything suspicious people are encouraged to contact your local law enforcement.”
