Husker fans who live in Fairbury will have a new spot to watch their favorite team this fall.
The Bonham Theater on E Street in downtown will show the Nebraska Volleyball game against Creighton on Sept. 6, and the Husker Football games against Troy on Sept. 8. and Colorado on Sept. 15.
President of the Bonham Theater project, Brooke Schwab, expects fans from all across the area to watch the Big Red in their showroom.
“It’s Nebraska, it’s Husker sports,” Schwab said. “We’re big volleyball fans, we’re big football fans, so we’re hoping to have more people to come in and check out the theater. It’s a way to get people in – maybe a different crowd than those who would come in for a movie.”
Doors will open 45 minutes before games. There’ll also be a cash bar at every game showing, along with regular theater concessions.
“You can’t enjoy a Husker game without a beer, right?”
Schwab says they’ll only air games that don’t interfere with their scheduled movie show times, so games will be added to their schedule on a wait-and-see basis.
After their reopening on Sept. 27, 2017, the Bonham Theater has had a successful run in its first year back.
“It’s been a fabulous year,” Schwab said. “We’ve had great turn outs for movies. There haven’t been any of them that have been complete bombs. Special events are really what have kept us going and have been a big deal here.”
The Bonham Theater first opened in September 1926, and closed in 2012 only to be reopened five years later.
