The Fairbury shriners sold 1,410 lbs. of onions last year. This year in March, they pre-sold 1,800 lbs., had to pick up an extra 200 lbs. in May because we oversold, for a grand total of one ton of onions. The sale of Vandalia Onions is a money raiser to benefit Shriner’s Hospitals.
The Shriner’s Hospitals help children that have many conditions; Hand, Arm, Foot, Leg or other Problems, Missing Limbs and Limb Length Deficiencies, Joint Stiffness/Pain, Spine Conditions, Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, Brittle Bone Disease and more. You can contact any Shrine member and get you the information you need or go to one of the Shriner’s Screening Clinics. They are held the first Monday of every month at Bryan Health Medical in Lincoln.
Once accepted into the system, there is no cost to the patients and attending family member. transportation to our Shriner’s Hospitals hotels and some meals are taken care of, and all treatments and prosthetic aids are cost free.
