Fairbury pool construction ‘right on schedule,’ according to city officials

FAIRBURY, NE – Last week, the Fairbury City Chamber of Commerce sent out a flier, advertising the hiring of lifeguards for the new Fairbury City Water Park.

The Water Park, which is scheduled to open this coming Memorial Day weekend, is right on schedule in terms of construction.

“We’re still looking at substantial completion at the beginning of May,” Fairbury planning and zoning administrator Laura Bedlan said. “So, we plan to open on time.”

Ground was broken on the site on Jul. 6, 2018, and construction was about 80 percent complete by Christmas time, according to the city website.

“We’re really excited to have it,” Bedlan said. “We hope it’ll help with the (Beatrice/Norris/Fairbury) swim team a lot. We hope that it’ll bring people into the community to enjoy our facilities. We also hope it’ll be a big draw for local people.”

Bedlan said the filter house at the pool site has been finished for awhile, while the bathhouse is being roofed and is nearing completion.

Larkin Aquatics of Kansas City designed the pool, which was first approved by the Fairbury City Council in 2017.
