FAIRBURY – If you listen closely, you may hear the music playing from the Rock Island Railroad Museum on Monday nights.
Fairbury Community Band Director Ted Luebbe says, “The Fairbury Community Band has probably been playing for…I don’t know, a long time. In one form or another, probably for 30 years at least.”
Luebbe recently retired as the band director for Fairbury High School after 24 years.
The group gets together once a week, mostly because they enjoy playing together, but looks forward to performing for audiences around the area.
Luebbe says, “We find some places to perform once in awhile like the nursing homes, the assisted living, we played for the Courthouse Celebration, Fourth of July – those type of things, the County Fair.”
Luebbe closed with, “You know, you look at the ages in the group, people in their 30’s up to ‘retired’ age. Just because they like to play, not necessarily so much to go out and perform. Just to get together and play our instruments.”
