Fairbury Board Sets Salaries, Recognizes Academic All-State Winners

FAIRBURY – Fairbury Public Schools administrators will all receive 3.5 percent pay increases for the 2017-18 school year. The Board of Education approved the increase as part of a series of actions during its meeting Monday night.

Board President Vickie Banahan said the across the board increase is intended to help bring administrator salaries more in line with comparable districts.

The board also approved a 2.75 percent increase in the base salary for classified staff, with bonuses for longevity bringing the total increase to 3.52 percent.

Also during the meeting the board approved using depreciation funds to purchase an LED sign that can display messages. The PTA has raised more than $33,000 to pay for the sign, with the district covering the remaining cost. The board also approved Starr Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning as the electrician to install the sign on a 4-0 vote with board member Jody Starr Abstaining.

The board also recognized Fairbury students who received academic all-state awards, which go to varsity participants who have a GPA of at least 3.7. Fairbury’s winners were Justin Peterson and Isaac Robinson in boys basketball, Macy Ohlde and Emily Burkley in girls basketball, Michaela Buchli and Garret Ragland for speech, Mikasa Lierman in swimming and Jacob Johnson and Patrick Ondrak for wrestling.
